Our Mission:
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Chautauqua Area Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

Whom We Serve

Habitat homebuyers are of low to moderate income, with a stable employment record and decent credit history. Participants are chosen based on their need, ability to pay, and willingness to fulfill the “sweat equity” component: helping to build their future home or those of their Habitat neighbors.

How We Work

We are a non-profit housing developer that works with both government agencies and philanthropic donors to offer hard-working New Yorkers “a hand up, not a hand out” helping families to build equity, financial stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership and financial education.

Why it Matters

It’s clear there is a housing crisis eroding our area’s culturally rich communities. Chautauqua Area Habitat for Humanity homes give families in Western New York a path towards financial stability and the choice to remain within their communities.

“For my family, owning a Habitat house has provided my family the security of never having to move again. We are done packing and moving and having to establish ourselves all over again. We are home.”

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community and hope.

All Are Welcome

All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.
